Let me share with you the steps to change the engine oil and what to be careful about
Changing the oil isn't that complicated. Once you master a few key steps, you can complete the whole process in 20 minutes.
Preparation:
Before replacing, you may need to prepare a floor jack, safety rack, wrench and funnel.
Before starting the replacement, check the underside of the car to make sure you can remove the filter. Check the oil capacity of the vehicle and the location of the drain plug in your user manual in advance.
If your car has a cold engine, run the engine for a few minutes to heat the oil, which helps loosen up pollutants in the oil and allow them to flow into the drain pan.
However, do not attempt to drain the oil after starting the engine and allow it to cool for about ten minutes to avoid burning your hands and allow the oil to flow into the pan as much as possible.
Replacement steps:
1. Use a ramp when changing oil
You can drive your car on a ramp, or use an inexpensive floor jack and a set of jack holders. Then shake the car from side to side to make sure it is firmly supported. If you are using ramps, make sure they do not slide when entering a ramp. We can use a rubber pad under the front of the bracket and a 2 x 12 plank to prevent the ramp from sliding forward.
2. Discharge old oil
Loosen the drain plug about half a turn with a square end spanner. Avoid using a monkey wrench as it is more likely to slip and damage the plug. Slide the drain pan under the drain plug, loosen the plug, pull out the plug quickly and hold the plug so that it does not fall into the drain plug. Drain oil for at least five minutes, then reinstall the plug.
3. Unscrew the oil filter
Loosen the oil filter with the oil filter wrench and loosen the oil filter by rotating it counterclockwise. When the filter is loose, unscrew it by hand with a rag. The filter may be full of oil, so place the drain pan under it.
Remove the strainer and pour all the oil into the drain pan. Wipe all old oil or dirt from the filter mounting surface so that the new filter is properly sealed and that the old oil filter ring pad is not stuck to the engine.
4. Install a new oil filter
Apply a few drops of cleaning oil to the ring washer of the new strainer and carefully rotate the new strainer by hand. When placing the new strainer, be sure not to pick up any dust from other parts of the frame or ring gasket.
Turn the strainer clockwise until the washer attaches to the engine. Then turn the strainer about half a turn by hand to fully secure the ring washer. Use a wrench if space is too tight for a firm grip. Be careful not to tighten the strainer too tightly or the gasket may be torn.
5. Add new oil
Locate the engine oil filler hole and clean the area around the filler cap. Use a clean dry funnel to add new oil.
Be careful not to spill anything on the engine. If there are impurities, they should be wiped clean immediately. After adding the oil, put it back into the filler cap and check the oil level on the measuring tape to make sure that the liquid level is within the required scale.
6. Dispose of used oil
Pour used oil back into oil bottles or old containers. Be careful not to throw containers away with regular waste, as used oil is hazardous waste and must be disposed of properly.
Contact your regular repair shop, as many stores handle waste oil, or contact your local recycling agency for recycling.
Drain all the oil from the old filter and discard the filter into the trash can.
